About

Welcome to Research by Jakob: Bridging Psychology Research and Academic Excellence

Introduction

I’m Jakob, a psychology academic. As someone deeply passionate about research methods and psychological science, I’ve created this platform to demystify complex research and equip you with essential academic skills. What you can find here are interactive courses aimed at improving your academic skills. Additionally, you will find commentaries on papers I read for my academic work.

Background

I finished my Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Psychology) (Honours) in 2023 at the University of the Sunshine Coast, with the degree being conferred in April 2024. My thesis compared psychological distress between security officers and security canine handlers. My dissertation was the culmination of an independent research project I had conceived and executed under the patient guidance of my supervisor. Additionally, since 2022, I’ve helped dozens of students improve their grades from passes to distinctions.

My passion is the psychology of human-canine dyads. This passion was born from my experience as a security canine handler, followed by my experience with my assistance/service dog. Currently I’m studying a Master in Counselling. I will follow this up with a Master in Psychology and a PhD.

As both my professional and academic careers become busier, I find I no longer have time to assist individual students the same way I have over the last three years.

What I Offer

This website serves two purposes. First, I wish to continue helping students develop the academic skills needed to achieve top marks. This will involve courses in adhering to APA7 style and referencing, basic statistics, literature searches, and academic writing. Secondly, as I complete my Masters and prepare for my PhD, I will be consuming significant amounts of research. I intend to summarise this research and produce essays and literature reviews that connect the dots between various studies.

These affordable courses and articles will help undergraduate students better understand their course materials and produce superior assignments.

Why this Matters

For both the beginning student and the returning academic, there is a large learning curve. Lecturers set insurmountable reading tasks and ambiguous assessment tasks. Combined with the pressure to attain high grades, many students are tempted to breach academic integrity principles.

But students who rapidly learn the principles of academic excellence do not need to resort to unethical practices.

Join me on this journey to academic excellence, overcoming challenges and achieving excellence.
